BIO:

Originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, I now reside in North Carolina. I am a traditional quilter, fiber artist and encaustic artist. Following my husband both for business and enjoyment, we have travelled the world where I have collected ideas and photographs that influence my work. I studied art at the University of Saskatchewan, but most of my art education has been garnered through books and online classes and I now teach what I know to beginner quilters and encaustic artists. I have won several awards for my quilting and have been featured in magazines, podcasts and video interviews and have now ventured into the art gallery world. I am part of the art quilt movement, whose aim is to make quilted fiber art be regarded as relevant and collectible as traditional art mediums.

ARTIST STATEMENT:

Kathleen V Stuart is both a fiber artist and an encaustic artist moving between both mediums and sometimes combining the two.  Her fiber work is done with hand dyed fabrics, commercial fabrics and fused paper which is then machine stitched and hand embellished with threads, fibers and wire.  Her encaustic work is a combination of pigments and mixed media on wood panel.

Stuart’s art is a reflection of her love of nature.  She uses photographs she takes on travels as inspiration for her trees, leaves and  capricious flowers.  Her work is purely beauty for the sake of beauty…no hidden messages or hidden agendas.

Kathleen has won many awards for her work and has been featured in television and magazines.  She also has her fiber art as a permanent collection at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago which is used to educate the students about using fiber as an art form.
